J. Vicenty, a self-taught artist with culinary training, has been captivating audiences with his vibrant and eclectic art since his first portrait in 2019. In mid-2021, Vicenty's first portrait was exhibited, marking the beginning of his public artistic journey. The reception was overwhelmingly positive, with art enthusiasts praising the originality and emotional depth of his work. Since then, Vicenty has continued to refine his technique and expand his thematic repertoire, consistently delivering pieces that challenge and inspire.


Currently, he is working on a project titled "Recognition," where he uses his art to pay tribute to his past, present, and future self. This project is a testament to his reflective nature and his desire to share his evolving identity through his work. Each piece in the "Recognition" series is imbued with personal significance, offering a glimpse into Vicenty's journey of self-discovery and growth.

On July 12, 2024, Vicenty participated in the art show at Cannavita Art Gallery, an event curated by Ovono Agency and co-curated by Dara, and hosted by Katrina Chiovon. The evening was a significant milestone in his career, as one of his paintings was sold in a blockbuster sale, marking a triumphant moment for the artist. The event was well-attended, drawing art lovers, critics, and collectors from across the region. The atmosphere was electric, with attendees captivated by the diverse array of artworks on display.



The sale of Vicenty's painting at the Cannavita Art Gallery not only highlights his growing influence in the art world but also serves as a testament to the universal appeal of his work. His ability to connect with viewers on an emotional level, coupled with his distinctive artistic style, has cemented his reputation as a rising star in contemporary art.


Artist Q&A with OA

1. When did you start as an artist? Where did you start out? 


My journey began in 2019, I was a bit bored with life and then I was gifted a canvas and easel during the holiday times. The pandemic hit and we all home bound for a long time and I just started creating art on a daily bases everyday at 3 AM and still doing this today. Mined you Everything I’ve learned is self taught. I’ve never been trained.


My first public show happened 2021, I had inquired about a pop-up show at the Outlet by the Staten Island Ferry and I was referred to Ms. Keys who had an art space at the mall called Kinetik Arts. The rest is history I was In that gallery space for 6 months.



2. What inspired you the most to begin your journey as an artist?


What inspired me the most, I was trying to create a space that brought color while we were going through some dark gloomy times considering what was happening around the world. So my vision was to try and create happiness and memories of good times.


3. Who are some artists you work with or inspire you?


My biggest inspiration is Keith Haring. I had the pleasure of being part of Keith’s earlier years through my best friend who worked for Keith. I was privileged to see Keith use his art as a means of bringing attention to world issue, such as Crack is Wack, Free South Africa and Act Up. His influence in my life has shaped the direction of my art.


4. Would you say you have a specific style or theme, if so how would you describe that? 


My style has been described as a bit prolific mixed with a little eclectic, it’s currently how I’m feeling and how I’m seeing the world ,what’s going on around me how I’m feeling inside and memories are just purging out of me unto the canvas.

6. What do you have coming up or that you are currently working on?


I’m currently working on a big canvas piece 7‘ x 7‘ , Would love to collaborate with some artist and trying to focus on Miami Basil, and a Solo show 2025 Food and Art.


7. What have been some of your most recent exhibitions or shows? 


My most recent show was the Art Expo 2024 in NYC curated by HudsonRiver Art Collective and I also had a showing at the Atlantic Gallery in Chelsea, NYC curated by Culture Candy 

And a show for Alzheimer awareness with NYCAE. I’ve featured on the NASDAQ billboard in Times Square and currently been in four magazines this year including Guitar World April 2024 magazine.
