The Pop Culture Sculptor Behind RallyB Art

Ralph Burrows, also known as "Rally B," is a dynamic New York City-based artist whose creative versatility shines through his paper sculptures, illustrations, and paintings. As the creator of "Rally Figures," Burrows has turned his childhood passion for crafting handmade figurines into a professional brand, offering custom, intricate paper-mâché pieces that captivate art lovers and pop culture enthusiasts alike. Through his brand, RallyB Art, he celebrates characters from comic books, video games, and movies, skillfully blending nostalgia with artistic innovation.

Growing up in Queens, Ralph's artistic journey began at an early age. As a self-taught artist, his creative flair wasn't honed in art school, but in the intimate space of his bedroom, where he first began drawing and making small figures out of paper. Over time, this early spark transformed into a full-fledged brand in 2015, when he officially launched RallyB Art. The name has since become synonymous with his signature figurines, illustrations, and paintings, showcased on Instagram and TikTok. His unique creations gained increasing attention, particularly at art shows and comic conventions, where his audience was often stunned by the delicate craftsmanship of his paper sculptures. Many have mistaken his figurines for being made from clay or even 3D printed, only to be amazed by the paper's flexibility and the level of detail Rally B achieves with his hands. Burrows' work is deeply rooted in pop culture, with a distinct focus on characters from comics, television shows, and video games that fueled his artistic ambition from a young age. Iconic figures such as Todd McFarlane, Alex Ross, and Jim Lee have been key inspirations for Burrows, but he's also influenced by fellow artists and collaborators like Rolo Ledesma. His artistic process combines traditional drawing, painting techniques with digital tools like Adobe Photoshop, and paper mache—where his signature style truly emerges. The flexibility of paper allows Burrows to infuse each figurine with a unique personality and energy, drawing from his imagination and the cultural icons he grew up loving.

Burrows has a growing online presence where his custom-made figurines have earned a loyal following. His Instagram page, @rallyb.art, is a go-to platform for fans who wish to explore his creations or commission custom figures. He offers a wide variety of handmade collectibles, ranging from comic book heroes to video game characters, often integrating mixed media to bring each piece to life. Beyond social media, Burrows has also started developing a YouTube channel, RallyB_Art, to share behind-the-scenes content and tutorials, allowing his fans a closer look at his meticulous creative process. In recent years, Ralph Burrows has participated in a range of exhibitions and shows, with one of the most notable being Cannavita Gallery Night, curated by Ovono Agency.

Artist Q&A with OA When did you start as an artist? Where did you start out?  It all started when I was a young kid creating artwork in my bedroom. I didn't go to any art school for any art teaching, I was self-taught. I would draw, paint and mostly create small figurines which were made out of paper. As I got older, In 2015 I started my own brand called "RallyB Art" to showcase my illustrations and paintings. After I graduated from college, I started participating in comic conventions and art shows to gain exposure as an artist. As I was doing shows, I thought of an idea of showcasing figurines. I used to make figurines a lot when I was a kid but as I got older I stopped. I got back to creating figurines again and when I started showcasing my figures at the shows, I was getting so much praise. People would think that the figurines were made out of clay or 3D printed but get shocked that it's made out of paper. I really appreciated that I got so much praise and support from people for my work. What was your main source of inspiration to pursue a career in art? I grew up watching characters on television shows and movies based on comics, video games, etc. Later on, I got more involved with comics so that influenced me to become a professional comic book artist and now a sculptor as well. Do you have a distinct style or theme in your work? If so, how would you describe it? Well far as for drawing, I would draw characters realistically and creatively the best I can traditionally on paper and digitally on Adobe Photoshop program. Paintings, I would use acrylic paint and oil paint. When it comes to creating paper mache figures, I would say I have a unique style in that. Whatever ideas that come to my mind that I want to create I put into life by using different materials besides paper.

I'm inspired by many talented artists, but mostly the artists such as Todd McFarlane, Alex Ross, Jim Lee, and more. One of the artists I personally know named Rolo Ledesma, who I collaborate and do art conventions with inspired me as well.

What are some of the most recent exhibitions or shows you’ve participated in?

The most recent show I've done is the Cannavita Dispensary Gallery with the Ovono Agency. I've done the show twice and it was an honor being part of the events.

As Burrows continues to evolve as an artist, his focus remains on spreading enjoyment and inspiration through his art. While he's recently dedicated more time to producing figurines, he is now planning a return to his roots, diving deeper into illustrations and paintings. His ability to switch between artistic mediums, while maintaining his distinct "Rally B" touch, makes his work stand out in both the traditional art world and the pop culture scene.

Fans can keep up with Ralph's latest projects and convention appearances on Instagram, where he regularly updates his followers on new works and upcoming events. With his planned YouTube channel on the horizon and ongoing creative endeavors, the future is bright for Rally B and his growing army of paper-mâché figures.
